For me, this task is similar to doing my tax returns. I dread it. I detest it. It’s like a summer holiday without the sun, chips without salt and vinegar..a Sunday roast without a Yorkshire pudding. Oh you get the picture. Ahem.
Still it IS a necessity. Unfortunately. Necessary for a number of reasons. To work out an honest assessment of where you sit among competitors and to not make the same mistakes you made this year! To improve. So don’t shy away from it. Face those fears and get a true evaluation of what your blog is doing.
So, if you are blogging for your business as part of your marketing strategy, you need to take a look at the number of unique visitors and the number of conversions. By conversions, I mean, how many people clicked through on your call to action, or took some form of action from reading your blog. Now Google Analytics is obviously a great way tocheck source of traffic but you also need to consider the following:
- Where does the traffic come from?
- How many conversions from search engine?
- Have your posts been consistent?
- How many key influencers have sent traffic your way?
- Have you been consistent with your blog promotion?
- What is the number of your conversions?
If your conversions are low, you haven’t been tracking them enough and/or you have to look at the call to action you are using. Are you giving something away? Offering a discount? Etc. Perhaps you have reevaluate that offer?
Perhaps you don’t even have an offer? – Ahem. Get one!
If your numbers have gone up, BRAVO!
But look at where these new customers/followers are coming from and engage with them regularly. If someone (blog/site) has had something to do with getting you those new followers, buy them a bottle to say thanks!
