A Selection Of The UKs Finest Musicians Celebrate Their 20th Anniversary This Christmas In Aid Of Crisis.

 “Xmas Shindig #20”

On a fairly chilly Saturday one November in 1998, Andrea Britton stumbled upon Stephen Large busking out a Carly Simon number on his accordion in the middle of Greenwich market. It wasn’t long before she invited him into the infamous local haunt Time Bar to try out the new baby grand she’d just had delivered.

Fast forward twenty years and throw in years of Sunday residencies, pub gigs, tours, festivals, TV and Radio appearances and numerous national and international performances in incredible venues around the world, and you have South East London’s answer to Burt Bacharach and Dusty Springfield, arguably the most popular local performance couples of the last two decades.

Every Christmas these internationally successful musicians, who have gone on to entertain tens of thousands of international fans on some of the worlds most popular stages, joining forces with long-standing band member Tom Mann and friends to get your festive juices flowing they return to the place where it all started, Greenwich, South London.

Those in the know will be well aware of Stephen Large’s unique keyboard antics. Renowned for his crazy performances In his own outfit Lord Large, he has been at the helm of some of the UKs favourite artists, such as; Squeeze, Rebecca Ferguson, Duffy, Babyshambles, Caro Emerald, Paul Heaton, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas to mention but a few.

Andrea Britton who has a successful string of hits under her belt and shared stages with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Kelly Rowland, Clem Curtis and many more.

This year they are joined by Squeeze veteran Glenn Tilbrook and dedicating their 20thanniversary gig to Crisis to raise money to beat homelessness.

Introducing Margate Soul Festival Fringe

A New and Exciting Element To The Margate Soul Festival For 2018

For over a decade, street parties within the footprint of Margate’s Old Town, harbour and beach have been the true heritage and founding principles of the Margate Soul Festival. Not only have they provided visitors with hours of free entertainment but encompass that ‘whole town experience’that no other festival offers. We intend to further this essential component by adding some rather exciting elements for 2018.

This year we feature over 60 DJ’s across 4 stages in addition to demonstrations of Spoken Word, Jive, Jazz and Latin dance performances, plus a sensational new stage dedicated to nurturing and supporting unsigned, undiscovered, and under-the-radar UK talent. The MSFest Community Stage will be hosted by Margate local and BBC Radio 1’s Gemma Cairney who says;

gemma cairney BBC Radio 1It’s an honour to be part of the Margate Soul Festival, when I see the streets filled with music and dancing it makes my heart pop and it suits me down to the ground to be comparing the fringe offering. Giving a chance to provide a stage for up and coming talent and mashing genres in the way I love best and that it’ll be free for all is the cherry on the cake.” Gemma Cairney
