Introducing Margate Soul Festival Fringe

A New and Exciting Element To The Margate Soul Festival For 2018

For over a decade, street parties within the footprint of Margate’s Old Town, harbour and beach have been the true heritage and founding principles of the Margate Soul Festival. Not only have they provided visitors with hours of free entertainment but encompass that ‘whole town experience’that no other festival offers. We intend to further this essential component by adding some rather exciting elements for 2018.

This year we feature over 60 DJ’s across 4 stages in addition to demonstrations of Spoken Word, Jive, Jazz and Latin dance performances, plus a sensational new stage dedicated to nurturing and supporting unsigned, undiscovered, and under-the-radar UK talent. The MSFest Community Stage will be hosted by Margate local and BBC Radio 1’s Gemma Cairney who says;

gemma cairney BBC Radio 1It’s an honour to be part of the Margate Soul Festival, when I see the streets filled with music and dancing it makes my heart pop and it suits me down to the ground to be comparing the fringe offering. Giving a chance to provide a stage for up and coming talent and mashing genres in the way I love best and that it’ll be free for all is the cherry on the cake.” Gemma Cairney

Miss Kiddy & The Cads Perform At Underbelly Festival

For Immediate Release:

Miss Kiddy And The Cads are a glam 1940s swing band who gives the chart hits of the last three decades a vintage makeover with swinging beats and toe-tapping finesse.  From Bowie to Beyonce it’s a wholly immersive experience that combines the influence of jazz, cabaret, comedy and vintage, along with show-stopping vocals, authentic costumes, and an unquestionably talented tap dancer.

Launched in 2016 to a full capacity crowd at The Pheasantry Jazz Club, London, they’ve made waves on the scene since, with sold-out shows at Pizza Express Soho, Upstairs at the Gatehouse Theatre and Crazy Coq’s at Zedel’s as well as bringing some vintage sparkle to Camp Bestival, Strode Park, Whitstable Oyster Festival and Bestival. This year, they look forward to a busy summer season featuring a one night only show at Underbelly Festival on London’s Southbank. They will perform in the stunning and utterly authentic Spiegeltent on Friday 3rd August at 9.15pm and tickets are on sale now.

MSFest2017 Reflections

We hope you had a fantastic time at MSFest2017. It really was an event to remember…

We partied hard over the weekend of the 4th to the 6th of August and Margate hosted over 100 DJ’s across 10 venues and featured live performances from an all-star international line up including; ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, Gwen Dickey of ROSE ROYCE, MARC EVANS, TREVOR NELSON and PAUL TROUBLE ANDERSON to name only a few.

If that wasn’t enough it continued with the most flamboyant Carnival yet on Sunday afternoon and we had Jazz funk legends THE BLACKBYRDS, Latin Soul & Salsa stalwarts JOE BATAAN, GERARDO FRISINA, MF ROBOTS formed by JAN KINCAID founder of the Brit Jazz & Funk band BRAND NEW HEAVIES, TOM GLIDE and DIVAS GOT SOUL with guest vocalists SEL, CHIDI & HIL ST SOUL and singer songwriter GREG BLACKMAN to provide Sunday’s soundtrack.

“The festival has gone from strength to strength and continues to grow. Our festival partner Mi-Soul Radio, broadcasting on DAB, online and through mobile APP, has been a welcome voice projecting a consistently positive image of our town and we simply can’t wait for MSFest2018.” states Eli Thompson, the festival founder.
