I have put together a simple Blog Editorial Calendar for your to download. Spending a little time planning your content for the year will not only save you time in the long run but also create a stronger brand perception to your audience. When creating your calendar, think about the following…

1. What do you want to say to them? Are you offering information? Stats? Discounts? Offers? Knowledge? Amusement?…

2. How do you want to say it? Via Articles? White Papers? Infographics? Links? Images? Virals?…

Monitor throughout the year and keep notes on your levels of engagement. Who liked it, shared it, who commented etc. and at the end of the year, take some time to look back on your content and measure what worked and what didn’t.

Does your business speak to numerous target markets?

Take the ‘Come Rain or Come Shine Test…

Reaching out to more than one target market can be difficult. If you have a service, product or business that can cross over world views. When I say that, I mean you may have a dry cleaning service, a taxi company, a hairdressing salon, an insurance company or you may sell a product for the home – either way you are reaching out to a varied target market and hoping that a huge cross section of people respond to what you are selling.

The old jazz standard, ‘Come Rain or Come Shine’ says…

“I’m gonna love you like nobody’s loved you come rain or come shine
High as a mountain and deep as a river come rain or come shine
I guess when you met me it was just one of those things
But don’t ever bet me cause I’m gonna be true if you let me

You’re gonna love me like nobody’s loved me come rain or come shine
Happy together unhappy together and won’t it be fine?
Days may be cloudy or sunny
We’re in or we’re out of the money
But I’m with you always, I’m with you rain or shine.”

If we break the words down she could be slightly desperate, someone to avoid in fact. Or she could be in love and confident with it. And is she talking about a loved one, or herself? Hmmm. Food for thought.

Either way, the song is reaching out to varied target markets…The Lovers, The Cynics, The Hopeless, The Feminists…and that’s just what you need to do when creating your online presence, talking to your customers and posting on your social media channels.  This is why a strategy is so important and you can encompass the very heart of your brand over a long period of time.

If you don’t have an online strategy for your business, its time you did!

Blog Writing: Concept #Tip1

When writing a blog, it sounds obvious but first things first is knowing what is it that you want to say and how you are going to say it. Are you offering valuable information? Explaining something? Writing a response to another article? Making a point? Referencing? Reviewing? Either way, knowing and having a clear idea how you would like to present is key. If you follow these basic tips, you will organically begin to elaborate and your articles will become more confident, understandable and relevant.

1. Introduce 

Firstly introduce the idea and make it relevant to the reader. When reading back your opening paragraph – the most important one, put yourself in your readers shoes and try to think about how it makes them think and feel.

2. Reference 

Describe the point in more detail and use an example so folk really understand where you are coming from.

3. Explain

You may want to explain it’s relevance further to your readers. Do your research and justify any statements well. If it is just an idea you are talking about, make it interesting by asking questions. The rule when explaining is to offer backed up facts.

4. End

Tying up loose ends and giving the idea a final push with a good ending will determine whether your readers act upon your article in some way – i.e. like, share, commenting or getting in touch with you. It could be a question, a lasting thought, a statement or simply your concept explained in a different way.

Once you have this basic skeleton, you are quite prepared to write a great blog post! Good luck!
